How to Add a Link to Your TikTok Bio (2026 Rules and Fixes)
You can add a clickable website link to your TikTok bio if your account has at least 1,000 followers, or if it is a Verified Business Account. That rule is why the option is missing for most people rather than broken. Here is who qualifies, how to add one, and what to do if you don't.
Who can add a link to their TikTok bio?
TikTok's help article "Adding a website link to your profile" states it in one sentence: "You can add a link to a website on your TikTok profile if you have at least 1,000 followers, or if you have a Verified Business Account." (Read live on 19 August 2026.) Two paths, then:
- Follower path. A General TikTok Account (what TikTok now calls a Personal Account) crosses the threshold at 1,000 followers and the Links section appears in Edit profile.
- Business path. A Verified Business Account gets the website field with no follower minimum. The word "verified" is doing real work here. Business verification is a separate process from the blue check, and an unverified business account is not a shortcut around the follower count.
One correction, because older guides still repeat it: TikTok's current eligibility article carries no "not available in all regions" caveat on the website link. That caveat now attaches only to Lemon8. If your account qualifies and the field is still missing, treat it as a bug or an account-type problem, not a regional lockout.
How many followers do you need to add a link on TikTok?
1,000. That number re-verified as current on 19 August 2026, and it applies to General TikTok Accounts. Below it, TikTok does not show the website field at all, so no amount of reinstalling the app will summon it.
Adding a bio link does not suppress your reach, despite the persistent rumour, and we covered what actually affects TikTok views separately. So the only real question is whether you'd rather grow to 1,000 followers or verify a business account.
How do you add a clickable link to your TikTok bio?
Once you're eligible, TikTok's own steps are short:
- In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
- Tap Edit profile.
- Next to Links, tap Add.
- Follow the steps to link your website.
If you want the business route instead, the account switch lives at Profile → Menu (three lines) → Settings and privacy → Account → Business verification. TikTok explicitly advises against flipping back and forth: your verification is not saved, so you'd have to verify the business again to get the features back.
Why is the link option missing from your TikTok bio?
Work through these in order rather than changing five things at once and losing track of what fixed it.
You're not eligible yet
The most common answer, and the least satisfying one. Open Profile → Edit profile and look for a Links section. No Links section on a personal account under 1,000 followers is expected behaviour, not a fault.
Your business verification lapsed
This catches people who genuinely had the field before. TikTok's account-types article says it may ask you to verify your business to keep certain features, and "if you don't verify your business, your account may automatically be converted into a General TikTok Account." A converted account under 1,000 followers loses the website link with the rest of the business tooling. Check your account type before assuming a bug.
The app is failing to render the field
Symptoms: the field disappearing after it worked, the Add button under Links not responding, edits saving on one device but not another. The boring fixes are the right ones, in this order: update the app, force-close and reopen it, log out and back in, then retry Edit profile → Links → Add. If it appears on one phone and not another, the app is the problem, not your account.
You're looking at linked accounts, not the website field
A linked social account has never been the same thing as your website link, and in 2026 the distinction got sharper. See the next section.
Still missing after all of that? Screenshot Edit profile and your account type, note your follower count, name the rule you qualify under, and file it through TikTok support. That is a bug report. "It doesn't work" is not.
What changed about TikTok profile links in 2026?
Two changes matter, and most guides still on page one haven't caught either.
Links that open other social apps are gone. TikTok's current wording: "TikTok no longer supports links that open or log you into other social media apps. You can still add links to your profile that direct people to those platforms' websites." The old advice about connecting Instagram or YouTube to your profile is dead; Lemon8 remains addable "where available." If you relied on app-opening links, that path is now a normal web link.
The in-app browser now polices redirect chains. TikTok says it uses "safety measures that limit how people can browse external link chains within the TikTok in-app browser," that these apply "across all accounts," and that users "may see a message prompting you to open the page in your device's web browser." Its recommendation to creators is explicit: add direct links "so people can access the intended site in just a few steps."
That has a practical consequence for anyone using a bio-link page. A link bouncing through a shortener, then an affiliate redirect, then a landing page is exactly the pattern that trips the warning, and every hop is a chance for someone to abandon. It is the same friction that makes Linktree's "unsafe URL" warning on TikTok so costly. Point the website field straight at your own page and let that page do the branching.
What should your TikTok bio link point to?
One destination, not five competing ones. TikTok traffic arrives impatient and inside an in-app browser, so the page has to load fast and answer the next-step question above the fold.
- One primary action. Subscribe, shop, book, watch, download and join the Discord on one screen is not a menu, it's a stall.
- No raw link rotation. Swapping the URL every promo works until an old video takes off and sends thousands of people to a dead offer. A stable page whose contents change underneath solves that.
- Keep the chain short. Per TikTok's own guidance above, direct beats clever.

Why can't I put a link in my TikTok bio?
Almost always because you're under 1,000 followers on a General TikTok Account and don't have a Verified Business Account. Less often, your business verification lapsed and TikTok converted the account, or the app is failing to render the Links section.
Do you need 1000 followers to add a link on TikTok?
Yes, on a General TikTok Account. A Verified Business Account can add a website link with no follower minimum, but verification is a separate approval process, not a setting you flip.
How do I put a link in my bio?
Tap Profile, then Edit profile, then Add next to Links, and follow the prompts. If there is no Links section, you are not eligible yet.
How do I add my bio on TikTok?
Bio text is separate from the website link and has no follower requirement. Tap Profile → Edit profile → Bio, write it, and save. Anyone can edit their bio text at any follower count; only the clickable website field is gated.
Why did my TikTok bio link disappear?
The two likely causes are an account-type change, including a business account converted back for lack of verification, and profile settings failing to load after an app update. Check your account type first, then update and restart the app.
Fix the right problem first
Check eligibility, then account type, then the app. That order saves the most time, because the overwhelming majority of "link in bio not showing" cases are the 1,000-follower rule doing exactly what it says.
